Overview
La Conxa neix a principis del segle XX al poble de l'Ermita, a la regió del Pallars. Amb 13 anys, l'envien al poble de Pallarès a ajudar la seva tia Encarnació. Allà hi coneix el jove Jaume, de qui s'enamora plenament al ball de la festa major. Malgrat que els oncles de la Conxa s'oposen al seu casament amb el Jaume per la condició humil del jove, finalment hi assenteixen. Un cop casats, el noi ajuda en les feines del camp a la família de la tia Encarnació, amb la qual viu el jove matrimoni. Poc més tard, la Conxa té dues filles i un fill. A mesura que creixen, els seus fills la veuen més aviat com una germana gran, mentre que l'autoritat maternal l'assumeix l'Encarnació.
